Magic Johnson Sells "Black Power Cookies" at His Version of Starbucks (VIDEO)

Filed under:

Magic Johnson Sells 'Black Power Cookies' at His Version of StarbucksEarvin "Magic" Johnson is a retired NBA player, and one of the greatest point guards of all time. But since leaving the world of basketball, he's become quite the entrepreneur. Magic has his own chain of businesses and is worth around $700 million. On 'Lopez Tonight' (weeknights, 11PM ET on CBS), Johnson discusses one of his latest enterprises -- opening up an "urban" version of a Starbucks coffeehouse.

Apparently, until Magic came around, no one thought that a Starbucks would work in the inner city. In fact, he said that opening an urban Starbucks was initially a "tough sell." " ... [People thought] we didn't wanna pay three dollars for a cup of coffee," he told host George Lopez.

But that wasn't the problem. The problem was the uniquely "white bread" food that was sold at the Starbucks chain. "We [don't quite] know what 'scones' are," Magic said. So Johnson came up with a few unique wrinkles all his own -- including, yes, a "Black Power" cookie.

Just So You Know, 'Jersey Shore' is Called 'Macaroni Rascals' in Japan

Filed under:

'Jersey Shore'Soon, Japan will be the latest country to witness the intellectually stimulating antics of the 'Jersey Shore' crew. However, the show will go by a very different name: 'Macaroni Rascals.'

Yup.

According to CNNGo.com, before the show could air on TV in Japan, a subtitle was necessary to explain it to viewers -- probably a sound decision, since the Guido stereotype is most likely not so well known in Japan. Translated, the series' new name is 'MTV Jersey Shore -- the New Jersey Life of Macaroni Rascals.'

George Clooney and Elisabetta Canalis: Nobu Lovers

Bringing an end to the day with a delectable dinner, George Clooney and Elisabetta Canalis ventured over to Nobu restaurant in Milan, Italy on Monday night (September 27).

The Nobu dinner followed a busy day, as the "American" actor and his Italian model girlfriend were among the many stars in attendance for the Giorgio Armani show as part of Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011.

Prior to their fashionable doings, George and Elisabetta recently spent time with Miss Canalis's family on the island of Sardinia.

Dining at Da Giacomo during their Sardinian stay, a source told People of the cute couple, "They snuggled up together for most of the time. At one point he was eating with one hand and had his other arm around her."

And They're Off! 'The Amazing Race' Premiere

AR amazingface.jpg
Season 17 of The Amazing Race takes off in Gloucester, MA. Right away we meet our 11 teams, Brook and Claire (the home shopping hosts), Chad and Stephanie (the fast movers), Katie and Rachel (the volleyball players), Connor and Jonathan (the Gleeks), Nat and Kat (the doctors, STAT!), Michael and Kevin (the asian sensations), Nick and Vicki (the tattooed dimwits), Ron and Tony (Broadway BFFs), Jill and Thomas (the . . . normal couple who is perfect for this show), Mallory and Gary (Miss Kentucky and Dad Kentucky), and Andie and Jenna (the biologically reunited). And our host,  Phil, who kind of looks like a vampire, but only because that's popular these days.

There's a new twist this season: The Express Pass. If a team wins an express pass, they can use it at any time with any challenge they don't want to complete. So basically they can skip a whole task. Immediately everyone is thinking back on times this season when a team could have used that blessed pass. Phil drops another bomb: there are two flights leaving for their first destination but one of them leaves thirty minutes earlier and there's only room for three teams on board!
